CCTV Policy

1. Purpose

Fingal Beach Surf Life Saving Club uses closed-circuit television (CCTV) to help maintain the safety and security of members, visitors, volunteers and Club assets. This policy explains where CCTV is used, why footage is recorded and how recordings are managed.

2. Scope and purpose of CCTV

This policy applies to CCTV cameras operated by Fingal Beach SLSC, including cameras covering:

• Clubhouse interior and exterior;
• equipment storage areas;
• car park and access points; and
• Club-managed beach foreshore areas.

CCTV is used for legitimate Club purposes, including:

• deterring and detecting crime;
• supporting the safety of members, visitors and volunteers;
• protecting Club assets and equipment;
• assisting law enforcement and emergency services; and
• investigating incidents and complaints.

3. Signage

Clear and visible signage is displayed at Club entrances and in areas where CCTV cameras are in operation. Signage notifies people that they are entering a CCTV-monitored area and provides contact information for further enquiries.

4. Recording, storage and retention

CCTV footage is recorded and stored securely. Access to recordings is restricted to authorised Club personnel.

Footage is automatically deleted after 30 days unless it is required for an active incident, complaint, investigation, legal requirement or other authorised purpose. Footage retained for one of those purposes may be kept for as long as reasonably necessary for that matter.

5. Access and disclosure

Access to CCTV footage is restricted to:

• Club Directors and designated Club officials;
• law enforcement agencies with appropriate authority;
• emergency services where required in an emergency; and
• people seeking footage in which they appear, where access is permitted and appropriate under applicable privacy requirements.

All access to CCTV footage is logged and audited. Footage will not be released where doing so would unreasonably affect another person's privacy, compromise an investigation or conflict with a legal obligation.

6. Privacy

CCTV images may contain personal information. The Club handles CCTV footage responsibly and in accordance with applicable Australian privacy laws and recognised privacy principles.

If you believe you appear in CCTV footage and wish to request access, or if you have a concern about the way footage has been handled, contact the Privacy Officer. Requests will be considered having regard to applicable law, the purpose of the recording and the rights and safety of other people.
