Welcome to Nippers
Nippers is our junior surf lifesaving program for children aged 5-13, in age groups U6 to U14. It's all about having fun at the beach, making friends, and learning to stay safe in and around the ocean. For many families, Nippers becomes a special part of summer at Fingal Bay.
Nippers isn't about being the fastest — it's about learning, participating and improving each season.

Frequently Asked Questions
What age can my child start Nippers?
Children can start Nippers from age 5 (U6 age group). Age groups are determined by age as at 30 September.
Does my child need to be a strong swimmer?
No. Nippers is not a learn-to-swim program, but children can still build confidence and surf skills. Each child completes a Preliminary Skills Evaluation, including a swim and float, before applicable water activities so the club can identify the appropriate water-safety support. External swimming lessons are strongly encouraged.
What is Starfish Nippers?
Starfish Nippers is our inclusive program for members who require additional support. It runs alongside our regular Nippers program with activities adapted to suit individual needs.
How much does Nippers cost?
Membership fees can change each season. View the current membership fees or use the Nippers contact form before registering.
Do parents need to stay during sessions?
Yes, parents and carers stay on the beach during sessions. Many families get involved helping with setup, activities, or cheering from the beach.
When does the Nippers season run?
The Nippers season runs from October to March, with sessions on Sunday mornings during surf season.
