How to Join Nippers
Getting started is easy. We welcome new families every season!
1. Become a Member
Register your child online. At least one parent or guardian also joins the club.
Register Online โ2. Come to an Open Day
Meet our team, ask questions, and see Nippers in action. Open Days are held before the season starts.
3. Complete Swim Proficiency
Children complete the annual Junior Activities Preliminary Evaluation before applicable water activities. A separate Competition Skills Evaluation applies to eligible carnival water events.
4. Get Ready for the Season
Pick up your club cap and rash vest, and check the calendar for session dates.
Parents stay during sessions โ you're part of the fun too! Many families help out on the beach or behind the scenes.
Swimming & Water Activities
Nippers includes age-appropriate water activities. Children complete the relevant Junior Activities Preliminary Evaluation before participating in applicable water activities.

Lead your child's age group โ training provided.
Water Safety
Help keep kids safe in the water during sessions.
Setup & Packdown
Help set up equipment before sessions. pack it away after and stay for the BBQ.
Carnival Volunteer
Support our teams at carnivals and events.
Some roles require a Working With Children Check โ the club can help you get one.
Keeping Nippers Safe
Nippers is a child-focused program. These requirements and commitments help explain the standards that apply to participants, parents and volunteers.
Code of Conduct
All participants, parents, and volunteers are expected to follow the SLSA Code of Conduct.
- Respect all members, officials, and equipment
- Support your child and encourage their participation
- Follow instructions from Age Managers and Water Safety volunteers
- Maintain a positive, inclusive environment
- No bullying, harassment, or unsafe behaviour

Working With Children Check
Members undertaking child-related roles must meet the current NSW Working with Children Check (WWCC) requirements unless a defined legal exemption applies.
- โ Age Managers must hold a current, verified WWCC
- โ Other child-related roles are assessed under current SLSNSW and NSW requirements
- โ Volunteer WWCC applications are free in NSW
- โ The club must verify required clearances before child-related work begins
