Social Media & Online Communication
Club standards for responsible publishing and safe communication.
The Club's social-media policy
POL-03 Social Media (PDF), version 7.0 adopted on 4 August 2026, adopts SLSA Policy 6.20 and adds Club-specific requirements. The SLSA policy takes precedence if they differ. This summary does not replace either policy.
It applies to official accounts and personal online activity connected with the Club, including activity that identifies someone as a Club member or uses Club content or branding. It does not cover purely personal use with no identifiable Club connection. Read the full Club policy and the current SLS policy library.
Publishing and representing the Club
- The Director of Administration oversees official Club social media. Day-to-day work may be delegated to an authorised appointed role.
- Posting authority is set out in POL-03: Administration or an appointed Communications Officer; the President for official announcements; and Directors for portfolio content approved in advance by Administration. Other members need express prior authorisation.
- Keep published information accurate. Do not disclose confidential information or comment on matters awaiting Board decision, disputes or disciplinary processes.
- Commercial endorsements and third-party promotion require Board approval. Use Club and SLS intellectual property only with the required authorisation.
- Personal opinions must be clearly identified as personal. Follow the full conduct requirements in POL-03 and POL-08 Member Code of Conduct.
Children, images and electronic contact
- A person in a position of authority must include a parent or carer in one-to-one electronic contact with a child or young person.
- Electronic communications with children must relate directly to SLS activities. Members must not follow individual children or young people on personal social-media accounts.
- Images must meet POL-04's consent and use requirements. Avoid naming children in public posts or alongside their images. If naming is genuinely unavoidable, use first name only and only with written parent or guardian consent. Never include a child's surname, school, home address, suburb, identifying patrol times or schedules, or other identifying personal details.
See photography and children's image guidance and the Child Safety page. The same conduct standards apply on Stack Teams, the Club's member-communication platform.
Raise a concern
Report suspected social-media breaches to the Director of Administration or President. Use Contact โ General Enquiries and address the message to the responsible officer; include only the information needed for the initial enquiry. Preserve a screenshot or other record where appropriate.
Serious concerns involving child safety, harassment or potentially unlawful content require immediate escalation to the President and may also require external reporting. Read the child-safety reporting guidance and formal complaints and support pathways. Members must not investigate child-safety concerns themselves. For immediate danger call 000; do not wait for a Club inbox response. Nothing here prevents or delays a report to police or another authority.
